Powder Magazine, Bank Lane, Eston, Redcar and Cleveland

The powder magazine of the former Trustee Drift Level ironstone mine was built around 1870, for Bolckow and Vaughan Ltd. Ironmasters. Powder magazines were used for storing explosives for blasting rock in the mine. They were built well away from the mine. Blast walls were put round to contain any accidental explosions. The magazine and its walls are now disused and have become dilapidated and covered in graffiti.
