Reconstruction of a bark peeler's hut, Roudsea Woods, Cumbria

Bark was an important natural resource used in the tanning process. This picture shows an early 20th-century bark peeler's hut with timbers positioned to give an idea of the finished structure. Woodsmen lived in huts such as this when their work took them to woods away from their homes.
