Red Lion Hotel, Haltwhistle, Northumberland

This building includes the remains of a 15th century pele tower. Pele towers were only used in times of trouble. They were a place of refuge. This one has then been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries to become an inn. It is architecturally important as a rare survival of this type of defensive tower in a town.
