Riber Castle, Matlock Town, Derbyshire

The castle was built by John Smedley in 1868. It is a large castellated mansion, enclosed by battlemented curtain walls with out towers. It is a well known landmark, at the top of a hill. It is unoccupied and ruinous and thought of as a giant folly.
