Richard II's Palace, Portchester Castle, Portchester, Hampshire

This is a cutaway reconstruction drawing of what Richard II's palace would have looked like in the 14th century. As part of a reorganisation of the castle between 1396-99 Richard ordered the construction of a series of grand residental apartments for his use. The rooms shown here (clockwise from bottom left) are the kitchen, buttery and pantry, Great Hall, south-west chamber, exchequer chamber and chapel. This property is in the care of English Heritage.
