Richborough Roman Fort, Sandwich, Kent

A Roman fort was built in the 3rd century AD at Richborough. In the foreground are the triple ditches of the earth fort, with the walls of the later stone fort visible beyond. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Read detailed archaeological description.
