Ruins of Newark Priory, Ripley, Surrey

This medieval priory has had many different names. It was probably founded in the reign of Henry I (1100-34). It was originally the Priory of Aldbury in the parish of Send. From the 13th century it was called Newark Priory or the New Place Priory, Guildford. It was then refounded by Ruald de Calva in the reign of Richard I (1189-98). It was closed in 1538 as part of Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries.
