Samlesbury Hall, Samlesbury, Lancashire

The north east front of Samlesbury Hall with decorative quatrefoil patterned timber framing. Samlesbury Hall is one of the most outstanding timber framed halls. In its present form the building consists of a south wing with the hall at right angles to it. Originally it was larger, having a courtyard with buildings on three sides. The hall is 15th century, and the south range about 1545, except for the west end, which was added in 1862. Much was altered and restored in 1835. Before 1825 the outlines of the moat could be traced, but it has since been filled in and merged into the modern gardens.
