These are part of the Medieval City Walls. This section includes several towers. Arundel Tower, a round tower, was built in the 1200s and added to in 1377-9 when Sir John Arundel was governor of the Castle. Catchcold tower was built in the early 1400s with 3 gunports. The gunports are some of the earliest in Europe. It also the entrance to Castle Vault. this was a rectangular vault (storeroom/cellar) which was built to store the King's wines. The barrels were unloaded directly into it from the quayside.
