Sherborne Old Castle, Castleton, Dorset

The castle was built by Roger, bishop of Salisbury between 1107 and 1135. Restoration was begun by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1592 but soon abandoned. During the Civil War the castle was held for the Crown in 1642 and 1645. It was partly demolished in 1645. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
