Shipyard Buildings, Barrow in Furness, Cumbria

These buildings are dated 1872 and had large additions around 1900. The original buildings were put up by the Barrow Iron Shipbuilding Company which was formed in 1870. They may have been used as timber sheds. The company was taken over by the Naval Construction and Armaments Co. Ltd in 1888 and then by Vickers Sons and Co. in 1896. The additional buildings were built for Vickers, Sons and Maxim Ltd. The buildings were in use as administration and drawing offices in the 1970s.
