St Briavels, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

An aerial view of the centre of the village of St Briavels. The castle gatehouse was built in 1292-3 and lies in the centre of this photograph. Two large D-shaped towers flank the entrance passage. The remainder of the castle is now used as a Youth Hostel. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2012). Find out more.
