St Joseph's Orphanage, Theatre Street, Preston, Lancashire
St Joseph's Orphanage was built in 1872 by R.W.Hughes for the patron Mrs Maria Holland. She gave a capital fund of nearly £20,000 to found St. Joseph's Orphanage for destitute female children and for other charitable purposes. The orphanage was for catholic girls and was run by nuns. A hospital block was added in 1877. It was used to care for wounded soldiers during both WWI and WWII.
