St Mary And All Saints Church, St Marys Gate, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

St Mary's is a large medieval church built of ashlar stone. It has a nave, aisles, north and south transepts and a chancel. The chancel has 4 chapels around it. These were originally Guild Chapels. Its most famous and very noticeable feature is its 228 ft high spire. This is made of timber covered with herringbone lead plates. The spire is twisted and leans several feet in each of 3 directions because the wood has warped.
