St Mary's Abbey (ruins), Halesowen, West Midlands

St Mary's Abbey was founded in 1215 for the Premonstratensian order of monks. The remains are mainly 13th century and incorporated into a modern farmhouse. There are also detached remains that were probably the Abbot's House. In 1536, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII, the abbey and its possessions passed to the crown. Two years later the monastic buildings were partly demolished. The site of the abbey was granted by Henry VIII to Sir John Dudley who passed the site to his servant George Tuckey. The site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
