Stocks and Whipping Post, Market Street, Bottesford, Leicestershire

These stocks and whipping post were built in the late 18th century. The stocks have two pairs of ankle holes. Stocks were used for many centuries as a form of punishment for minor crimes, as were whipping posts. A statute of 1351 made it law for every township to provide and maintain a set of stocks.
