The Castle, Christchurch, Dorset

The castle was of the motte and bailey type. It was built by Richard de Redvers in the time of Henry I. It was demolished by order of Parliament in 1651. Only the mound remains with 2 blocks of masonry made from stone rubble and 9' 8" thick. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more.
