The Nelson Pyramid, Perlethope cum Budby, Nottinghamshire

The memorial pyramid was built in c1800. It is part of a group of memorials to the Battle of the Nile (August 1798). It was built by the owner of the Thoresby Estate, who was a naval officer. It has the inscription 'Palman Qui Mervit Ferat' (Let he who has earned it bear the palm). This was the motto of Horatio Nelson. Nelson had led the British to a stunning defeat of the French during the battle.
