Thropton Bastle, Thropton, Northumberland
This building was built in the 15th or early 17th century. It is what is known as a bastle house. This type of house was fortified. They were two or three storeys high. The lower floor is always used to house animals and the upper floor(s) were for living in. The entrance is on the first floor. This one is well preserved and has been carefully restored.
