Tile from Cleeve Abbey, Washford, Somerset

A medieval tile from Cleeve Abbey depicting a knight on horseback. He holds a sword in one hand and a round shield in the other. The Abbey itself was founded in 1198 and many of its surviving buildings date from the 13th and 14th centuries. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
