Transporter Bridge, Middlesbrough, Cleveland

Constructed in 1911 this was the largest of its kind when built to replace the ferry service. Up to 9 cars and 600 passengers can be carried at once. At the ground level the cables are housed in steel and concrete caissons sunk into abutments.
