Waltham Abbey walls, Waltham Abbey, Essex

This shows a wall enclosing the grounds of Waltham Abbey and in particular the Abbey House. The Abbey House was built in the late 12th century, dating from the Norman rebuilding period after 1184. The Abbey House was demolished in 1770. The actual Abbey was founded in 1030 and was constructed on this site by Harold Godwinson (King Harold II).
