Waring and Gillow, White City, Greater London

Workers attaching runners to canvas tents at the premises of Waring and Gillow at White City, where the company made tents for the military. Waring and Gillow made furniture before the war and had factories in London and Lancaster. It is interesting to see that there is a mix of young men and women as well as some older men, presumably in charge. The two girls in the foreground have what looks like leather sleeves to protect their blouse sleeves. They are dressed fashionably. The group of girls further back are wearing overalls to cover their clothes which is more usual.
