Weaving Workshop, Moor Lane, Ormskirk, Lancashire

This building was built in c1800 as a handloom weaving workshop. In 1808 it was occupied by Ainsworth & Co, when it contained 181 cast iron looms and 77 wooden looms. It is a very unusual survival of an industrial building representing the change from domestic to factory based production. Before this time most handloom weaving was done by families in their own homes.
