Winding Engine House at Newbury Colliery, Coleford, Somerset

This engine house was built in c1860. The Newbury Colliery had been producing coal since 1799. This building is probably associated with an expansion of the colliery in 1867. This is the best surviving example of an engine house from the Mendip area coalfields. It is also important in a national context as a survivor from the coal industry.
