Winding House at Bestwood Colliery, Bestwood St Albans, Nottinghamshire

This winding house was built in 1873. Its vertical winding engines are unusual in Great Britain. This is said to be the sole in situ example. The building is also notable for the early use of structural concrete and ornate design. It is part of the Bestwood Colliery built by the Bestwood Coal and Iron Company. The colliery closed in 1967.
