Description

The gatehouse and adjoining walls were erected by Thomas Atkinson for Archbishop Drummond between 1763 and 1765. It has two storeys and a single bay, with a wide elliptical carriage arch flanked by corner buttresses. Above the arch is a four light window with tracery, and the 1744 clock is under the gable. Crocketed pinnacles are on top of each buttress, and in the centre of the roof is an open turret, added in 1895.
