Description

The tomb of Sir John Vernon and his wife date from 1545. It is suggested that it was moved to its present location in the Lady Chapel of St Andrew's Church from a position closer to the chancel, perhaps reflecting religious upheaval in the 16th and 17th centuries. Beneath the two recumbent figures, the sides of the tomb are decorated with cusped arcades in which figures of angels and priests are carved in relief. The feet of Sir John rest on a lion.
