Description

Known by various names include the Longstone, Castle Dore Stone, Cunomorus Stone, or Tristan or Tristram Stone, the inscribed stone is an early Christian memorial. The inscription is in Latin and has been dated from between the 5th and 6th centuries and the 11th century. It has been moved several times: the earliest record of the stone records it as being close to Castle Dore, before it was moved to a crossroads near the East Lodge of Menabilly estate, where this photograph was taken; it was moved again in 1971 to its current location beside the B3415 outside of Fowey.
