Description

The photographer’s notes state: ‘Grey Friars, off north side of Lewin's Mead. The cross roadway at the bottom goes on left southeast to Lewins Mead. The buildings on left were used as a stone shed by Butcher & Co, builders in Rupert Street. Very old in parts. Its angle on the cross roadway is cut away in the ground story, and its upper angle is supported from below by a slender wood shaft on a high stone base, just visible in the photograph. Georgian house on the further side of the cross road, behind the wall.

In August 1955 the bracket lamp was no longer there, and the house behind the wall was empty.'
