Bromide copy of a map with the additional text 'The Original Survey For The Newcastle - Carlisle Military Road - c.1746'. The text was published in Archaeologia Aelina, volume 14, 1937. The map also shows the whole of Hadrian's Wall. The surveyor is unknown but the scheme was instigated by General Wade
