Description

The photographer's notes state: 'Nos 49 (nearest) Cardinal's Wharf, 50, 51 & 52 Phoenix Wharf (low block), Bankside, south side. Looking W.S.W. from the river side'.

He has added underneath: '(In Oct 1962 No 49 was in a much better condition, and inhabited. Nos 50, 51 & 52 were severely damaged in the 1940 or 1941 air raids. This block was a very different sight in Oct 1962. It had been thoroughly restored, and consisted of two dwellings only, Nos 51 & 52. The left doorway and hood, that belonged to No 50, had been removed. No 51 is now the Provost's Lodging. No 52 has two large Georgian style windows, and a new oval one between the above on the ground floor)'.
