Broxbournebury, a late 16th century courtyard house, was remodelled by the architect Sir Ernest George in 1878 for the owner, Horace Smith-Bosenquet. The Bedford Lemere daybook lists the architect as J M Vicar Anderson, although no further reference to this can be found.
