Description

The print has 'Bedford 1520 Chester, Grosvenor Hotel and Eastgate'. This is believed to refer to Francis Bedford, a contemporary of Bedford Lemere. The relationship between the two photographers is not fully understood. The Bedford Lemere day-books have the Bedford number (1520) prefixed by 'C&P', likely to refer to Catherall and Prichard who were based in Chester and published some of the work of Francis Bedford.
