Description

Eaton Hall was remodelled in the Gothic style in 1870-1882 by Alfred Waterhouse for the Duke of Westminster. In 1963 the main part of the hall was demolished, and a new hall constructed. The chapel, clock tower and stables were retained.

The album print is inscribed 'Bedford 1503'. This is believed to refer to Francis Bedford, a contemporary of Bedford Lemere. The relationship between the two photographers is not fully understood. The Bedford Lemere day-books have the Bedford number (1503) prefixed by 'C&P', likely to refer to Catherall and Prichard who were based in Chester and published some of the work of Francis Bedford.
