Description

The mausoleum commemorates the fourth Marchioness of Northampton. It was erected on the site of the former greenhouse, and was designed by J E Boehm. Castle Ashby was begun in 1574 for Henry, 1st Lord Compton. It was subject to several periods of alteration, in 1624-1635, 1748, 1771-1772, 1797-1807 and 1880. In 1884 the roof was rebuilt by Fairfax Wade following its' second collapse. The image was taken for the Marquis of Northampton.
