Description

Thornton Manor was built c1840s-1850s. The Bedford Lemere daybook lists the client as William Hesketh Lever, who rented the house from 1888. There is also mention of the interior designer Waring, later of Waring and Gillow, who probably designed the furnishings shown in the image. The house underwent substantial alterations in later years.
