Description

The Yemen Cafe was part of a building which included legal chambers, on the eastern corner of the Carey Street and Serle Street junction. George Sherrin was commissioned by George Arnold of Gravesend in 1888 to design the building and site the statue and inscription as he felt that despite scholarly recognition of Sir Thomas More there was no sufficiently public memorial to him in a prominent place.
