The Savoy Hotel was built 1886-1889 by Thomas Edward Collcutt for Richard D'Oyly Carte. The photograph was taken for G H Holloway.
The original number given in the album and on the reverse of the photograph is BL09665. According to the daybook BL09665 shows the Hotel and river from Waterloo Bridge. This is clearly not that view. It appears to be the view from the Embankment.
BL09666 on the next page in the album also shows the Hotel from the embankment and confirms this attribution. BL09666 was first taken on the 29th August 1889 and retaken on 1Sep 1893. it is possible these are the two versions of BL09666 but as the negatives were subsequently destroyed by Bedford Lemere no further confirmation is possible.
