Description

The Bedford Lemere daybook states that the image was commissioned by Major J G Joicey; William James Joicey was resident at Urpeth Lodge in 1890, and was the High Sheriff of the County of Durham in that year. The Joicey family were powerful coal mining magnates in the area. Interior furnishings were by Sopwith and Sons.
