Description

The Clock Tower, designed by E R Robson, was part of the Peoples' Palace, the first part of which opened in May 1887. Subsequent buildings included a library, swimming pool, gymnasium and winter garden. The Clock Tower is inscribed on its western face: 'Presented to the trustees of the Peoples' Palace for the benefit of the people of East London by Herbert Stern Esq in memory of his father, Baron de Stern'.
