Description

The image was taken for Lord Braybrooke, C C Neville, the owner of Audley End. The house was built 1605-1614 by John Thorpe and Bernard Janssen. The Bedford Lemere daybook contains the following statement: 'Built for Earl of Suffolk, Treasurer to James I. The Countess received large sums of money from Spain from which fund Audley End was chiefly built. The Architect was probably a relative of Cornelius Jansen, portrait painter.'
