Description

The photograph of the building designed by architect Thomas Edward Collcutt was taken for A J Pilkington and G H Holloway. The photograph is labelled the Royal English Opera House, Shaftesbury Avenue in the Bedford Lemere album and New Theatre, Cambridge Circus in the Bedford Lemere daybook. The building is on the corner of Shaftesbury Avenue and Cambridge Circus and was known as the Royal English Opera House (and later the Palace Theatre). The name 'New Theatre' appears to be a descriptive label used during construction as an identification aid.
