Description

The company was formed as Donald Currie and Co in 1862 running a regular sailing ship service to India. Steam ships entered service in 1872 and the same year a passenger and private mail service started between the UK and South Africa. It became The Castle Mail Packet Company in 1876. The photograph was taken for Donald Currie.
