The photograph shows that the premises either side of the arch are Wildy and Sons, law book sellers. There are two date stones above the broken pediment showing the initials T D W and the date 1697. The photograph was taken for Stannard Warne who the 1891 census return shows to be a surveyor and valuer. The Bedford Lemere daybook refers to the architect as 'old'.
