Description

The 1892 extension of the railway hotel was designed by architect William Bell, then the principal architect for the North Eastern Railway Company. The Bedford Lemere daybook also records that Burmantofts Co., a pottery firm from Leeds, were involved in the construction of the building, almost certainly creating the decorative architectural faience tiles and fittings of the interior. The company later merged with others and was then more properly known as The Leeds Fireclay Co. Ltd.
