Description

The Queens Chapel, or German Chapel was designed by Inigo Jones and built between 1623 and 1625. It was built as an integral part of St James's Palace, but it was separated from the palace when Marlborough Road was constructed. As a result, physically it now appears more part of Marlborough House than St James's Palace. The photograph was commissioned by Princess Alexandra of Denmark, wife of the future King Edward VII, who lived there from 1863 until the Prince of Wales ascended to the throne in 1901.
