Two vases associated with frigate HMS Endymion, famous for her duel with USS President during the War of 1812, displayed in Greenwich Hospital

Description

The first vase bears a plaque with the inscription 'Presented by the officers of HMS Endymion to Greenwich Hospital 15th July 1821'. The second is inscribed 'This vase was presented by the magistrates, merchants and inhabitants of St Georges, Bermuda to the officers of HMS Endymion in commemoration of her action with the United States Frigate President in which the latter vessel was captured. 15th January 1815'. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the client as 'Ch Hope'.
