Description

The Bedford Lemere daybook records the architect as William Wallace and the client as Debenham, presumably Frank Debenham the store magnate, who owned Oakwood Hall at this time.

The house was originally built in 1883 for Alexander Gavin Anderson of the Orient Steam Navigation Company and was designed by the architect John James Stevenson, his nephew by marriage. Alexander Anderson died in 1892 and the house was then purchased by Frank Debenham.
