Description

The Intake Cemetery, as it was originally known, was built for the Sheffield Burial Board and opened in 1881. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the architects as Charles Hadfield and Garland. In 1897 Charles Hadfield's son Charles Matthew Ellison Hadfield (1867 - 1949) joined the practice, which then became known as Hadfield, Son and Garland. Following Arthur Garland's departure in 1899, father and son worked together as C and C M Hadfield until 1916.
